Each of us goes through one or more processes. For some, the process is spiritual; for others, it may be financial, intellectual, professional, or even personal. I have personally gone through several. One thing is certain: at different levels, we are all going through a process.

The Process: Moving Forward Step by Step

A process is much more than a simple sequence of events. It is a journey made up of interconnected stages that gradually move us from point A to point B. Each stage has its place, its purpose, and its role in shaping the final outcome.

In every transformation, especially spiritual transformation, the result depends not only on the destination but also on the journey. God is not only working to take us somewhere; He is also shaping us as we move forward. The process then becomes a place of learning, preparation, and maturity.

That is why a process follows an order, a progression, and a pace that we must learn to respect. When we accept this pace, we begin to understand that waiting is not always a waste of time. It can be a season of invisible but essential preparation.

Sometimes we would like to choose only the stages we enjoy and avoid the ones that make us uncomfortable. Yet the difficult stages are often the ones that teach us the most. They reveal our character, test our patience, and teach us to depend more deeply on God.

Trying to move faster than God, or faster than the timing of the process may give us the impression that we are making progress, but it can weaken what the process was meant to produce within us.

Each stage prepares us for the next. What we are experiencing today may seem small, slow, or even unnecessary, but it is often contributing to our inner formation. The process teaches us to grow, mature, and become capable of carrying what God may entrust to us later.

Pregnancy is a powerful illustration of this reality. It follows a natural order, from conception to birth. Nothing happens randomly: a baby’s body develops progressively through specific stages, with each stage preparing for the next.

  • The organs develop gradually, each at the appropriate time.
  • Maturation continues progressively, even when everything cannot be seen from the outside.
  • A full-term pregnancy allows the baby to be better prepared for birth and for life outside the womb.

We cannot simply move from the third month to the ninth month without consequences. When birth occurs too early, some aspects of development may not yet be complete. This is why, in cases of premature birth, medical professionals may need to provide support for functions that have not yet had enough time to fully develop.

In our spiritual lives as well, God uses seasons, stages, and sometimes periods of waiting to shape us.

He is not only leading us toward a destination; He is also preparing our hearts, developing our character, and increasing our capacity to receive and carry what He has prepared for us.

The process is not only about where God is taking you ; but also about who you are becoming along the way.
